[on behalf of Neil Heffernan]

Dear Fellow EDMers,

There is a huge Kaggle Competition
<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fwww.kaggle.com%2fc%2friiid-test-answer-prediction&c=E,1,_vNBdnG0lOFFSx6sf5Q8UTfx61jqGvuSH24XjZxkM25FXP-S6kw9VimJ5onr2G66qYtqxfBTJvDfAp6jUotvQ_AIjzywIxl3D9Dv4IYKTm2mZgz11YRt&typo=1>
happening,
with 1,400 participants for an EDM challenge (and $100,000 in prizes). Most
of the participants at Kaggle are just general Machine Learning folks and
have no special EDM insights. I personally hope that our EDM field will
have some folks that either:

   1. Do well in the competition (the final results are not due until the
   end of December) or
   2. Submit a paper to the AAAI workshop

<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fsites.google.com%2fview%2ftipce-2021%2fhome&c=E,1,7z86l6jjePU82FmgKgkUHgI7QsIPJwXvKKGiEaKn00LATw6q_IPhCnxZG9bO-sWZgGzZuKGI_X9oc1aCQKRJXb92baV-wYWqJHz267nLHuYfzPuRkgqanQ,,&typo=1>
that
   is due on 11/09.

If EDM as a field has value we should be able to contribute something above
and beyond what the general data mining community is able to do. I do
recognise that the general data mining community has plenty to teach us,
but I hope we have some insights that help as well.

I am hoping to have a neat workshop where folks can talk about issues they
are finding.

Neil
